Starting your first office job might be scary… But don’t worry, everyone makes it out alive!
Here are a couple of tips for you:
1. Prepare yourself for a new routine
Ensure that your home is organised for a quick ‘getting ready for work’ in the morning; work out the best ways to get to work in advance.

And don’t forget about breakfast.

2. Ask questions
Find out what time you are supposed to be at work, as well as the time everyone else usually turns up to work. If everyone comes in a bit earlier, you should too.
Find out about the lunch – whether everyone pops out to a cafe or a supermarket, or bring their lunch to work.

Find out about hot drinks. Is tea/coffee provided? Do you need to bring a cup? Let’s be honest, you will not survive a whole day in the office without a cuppa!

What is acceptable dress code? Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.
Unless you want to be a stripper.

3. Get to know people
Observe dynamics in the office. It can also very helpful to learn everyone’s name.
4. Establish power structure.
It is very important to know who you would be answering to.

It might not only be your direct manager.

5. Find an ally.
You might not find a BFF at your new job, but make sure you find someone to support you throughout the transition.

6. Find out what’s acceptable
Are you allowed to listen to music? Is there a casual day? Do people dress up for Halloween?
Make sure you find this kind of information in advance, so you don’t look like a fool.

7. Make your space your own.
You will be spending at least 40 hours a week there. Which is around 2,000 hours a year!!!
So make sure you really feel comfortable at your work place!
8. Be patient.
Don’t worry, you will learn it all. In time.

For now, good luck!
